A tube amp really should not be used without some sort of load on it. ( Which is usually a speaker of course ).
But, you may use a shorted plug and " short out " the amps speaker output jack and then use it with no load on it.
On TUBE amps, you can short the output. On SOLID STATE amps, you can NOT short the output.
So, you may use a blank 1/4" Phone plug and short out the (+) tip on this plug to the GND/ Sleeve contact on same plug. Such as by soldering a short wire between these two contact points.
Tube Amps should ALWAYS have their outputs shorted when operated without a speaker load unless the amp has a built in speaker defeat switch which does the same thing.
* Be sure and plug the 1/4" Plug into the amplifiers speaker output jack BEFORE turning the amp on, and unplug it with the amp turned OFF.
CAUTION: If you have the amp turned on and plug something into the speaker jack then it will probably blow the output section. Possibly multiple components such as the output matching transformer, flyback diodes, and tubes.
It would be possible to just have the Standby Switch turned off ( meaning IN standby ) but if you then accidentally turn the standby on with no speaker load connected to the amps output then it will blow the flyback diodes. So, with the shorted plug in the output then it doesn't matter whether the Standby is on or off.
