Thank you for participating in the HOFA XMAS MIX Contest! We'd like to give you a short feedback to your contribution.
The choir has a good volume and a good position spatially but unfortunately it has a very unnatural and "twisted“ frequency response. You should try to make your EQ-ing a little more natural to keep an eye on the middle areas of the frequency spectrum as these are most important for a full, warm and natural sound.
Your mix has a pretty good pumping in the bass area which gives the song a neat "dancable" feeling - well done! Unfortunately, this aspect can't really show its full advantage as the low-end comes a bit too short. The drums sound a little weak in your mix. You can of course give them a little more volume but also the use of compression and a proper amount of low-end energy is important to give the rhythm more pressure.
We like the use of spatiality on the vocals. They're not too dry nor do they drown in reverb. Also, the room sound itself is quite good and fits the purpose. Unfortunately the vocals themselves have a very unnatural and "twisted“ frequency response. You should try to make your EQ-ing a little more natural to keep an eye on the middle areas of the frequency spectrum as these are most important for a full, warm and natural sound. In this case its especially the area around 400 Hz which comes a bit short while the high mids around approximately 2 kHz are a bit loud. Also, you could use a little more high end energy to make the vocals sit more in front of the mix.
The limiting / compression of your mix is too strong and noticeable. It leads to a fairly low musical dynamic and a conspicuous pumping and distortion of the master bus. You should therefore be a little more careful with the use of compression and/ or limiting on your mix to make it seem more lively and natural.
In total your mix has a very bright and thin frequency response. You should definitely try to give the lower mids and the fundamentals a bit more energy while you lower the high-end.
The screenshot below shows the comparison of frequency response. The orange curves show energy over frequency of our mix while the white curves show the frequency response of your version of this song. The upper curve is for peak levels and the lower curve shows the energy over time. Therefore, the lower curve is more meaningful for the comparison. You should lower the volume of our mix by 3 dB as the auditory AB-comparison is only valid on the same loudness level.
