Regarding using the transport mechanism on the Axiom with Sonar, you have to create a Cakewalk Generic Surface. Here is the first step.
Click on Options>Control Surfaces from the main menu.
Click on the little Star Icon and a menu pops up called "Control Surface Settings"
On the first drop down menu chose Cakewalk Generic Surface
On the 2nd drop down choose "USB Axiom 49 In 2" ###(NOTE prior I stated In1, this was wrong, USB is on In2)###
On the 3rd drop down choose "USB Axiom 49 Out"
Click Ok then Close
This creates the communication link from the Axiom to Sonar.
The next step specifies which buttons on the Axiom will be used to stop, start, move forward and backward.
Choose Tools>Cakewalk Generic Interface, and a menu titled, of all things, Cakewalk Generic Interface will pop up.
This is the menu where you attached the buttons on the Axiom to Sonar functions. In this case the functions we want are down below in the Global Parameters section.
Click on the radio button titled "Play".
Now look over to the right and click on the radio button titled "Controller".
At this point you have to enter the controller number for the Play button on the Axiom. To make sure you get the right number press the play button on the Axiom a couple of times and then click the Learn button in Sonar on the upper right of the menu. The number should be automatically entered as Sonar has gone out to get it. If nothing comes in at this point your USB connection is down. The number for my Play button was 24. Yours should be the same unless you have reset the numbers in the Enigma software and downloaded it into the Axiom.
Next you have to specify the midi number for turning this button on which is 127. (You don't have to do this next part because I just gave you the number but if you feel adventurous you can figure out where I got 127 by arming a midi track, hitting record and then pressing the transport buttons on the Axiom repeatedly. By checking the Events List in Sonar you can see what your button presses mean - 127 is the "On" signal for transport buttons. )
Put 127 in the box titled "Trigger Value"
Type "Axiom" into the Presets box and save this using the little disk icon.
Repeat this process for each button in the Global parameters you want to program to the Axiom. This would be the Play, Record, Stop, Fast Forward, Fast Rewind. The buttons numbers are 24, 25, 23, 22 & 21 in that order if your keyboard is set to default.
One comment about Fast Forward and Fast Rewind they don't turn off and keep repeating unless you hit stop. The Tranzport has gotten around this by making them work 1 measure at a time. I suggest you use the Jog buttons or one of the others in the Global parameters section and lock them to the FF and RW buttons on the Axiom. You can then just hit them repeatedly to move back and forward through the track. No other work around I know of for this.
Enjoy. After you close the configuration menu you should have control of Sonar from the Axiom. There will be some latency because you are up against your driver buffers and using USB but it’s very tolerable.
Another note, you use this same menu to configure the rest of your sliders and knobs but these are configured from the parameters on the left.
