Никогда не знал о такой функции в XG спецификации! Эта Ямаха у меня есть, но в руководстве нет про это ни слова, вариант с караоке не катит..
Как он это сделал??? Что это за функция в XG??

Actually it wasn't me who did this but David J. Reading. However, since I also was curious about this I can explain to you how it's done:
SysEx. In particular, the "Diplay Letter" function which is also documented in the XG specification.
It uses the following sequence: F0 43 10 4C 06 00 00 xx yy zz F7 xx yy zz contains the content. It's basically ASCII encoded as hexadecimal letters. 0x41 for example is "A" while 0x62 is "b". So if you want to write "Hello!" onto the screen the full sequence is:
F0 43 10 4C 06 00 00 48 65 6C 6C 6F 21 F7
To make these fancy animations you need to create a new SysEx dump for every change. Can be a bit time consuming but it certainly is fun.
There's also another function called "Display bitmap" which allows you to draw small 16 by 16 images that appear in the chord area.
If you happen to have XGworks it will make things a lot easier when using the List editor:

(Don't mind the weird Windows/Mac mix, that happens when using Wine on Mac.)
