Overview

Dr. Feel Good is a collection of drum grooves, fills, intros, endings, and percussion tracks in the style of Rock, Funk, Pop, R&B, Dance, Shuffle and Rhythm Tracks recorded in the General MIDI format. By opening or importing these MIDI files into your favorite computer sequencer and playing them back through a drum module or synthesizer, you have the basic building blocks to start any musical production. All files were recorded by live drummers to preserve the feel of the groove. Quantization was only used in those styles where an exact feel is intended (i.e. Techno, Dance, etc.). The goal of this collection is to provide working rhythm tracks to be manipulated by the user to fit their needs. Emphasis was placed on the basic building blocks of a song rather than on "licks". Phrases grouped in bars of 8 will help provide easy verse and chorus selection. Most files include percussion tracks that can be added to increase the variety in style and feel.

Importing and Working With Tracks

Dr. Feel Good was formatted to help in easy selection and manipulation of the material. One or more files can be imported into your sequencer for audition and selection. Once imported, be sure and mute all tracks before pressing play! Un-mute one track at a time to audition it. Once you have selected the material to be used, simply delete all unwanted tracks.

Now comes the fun part! The power in using MIDI files lies in their versatility. Now that you have selected material, you can manipulate it in many ways to make it your own. Be creative and try some of the following techniques:

1. Cut, Copy, and Paste to create your own arrangements and build songs.

2. Use different Groove Quantization to match the style you are trying to achieve. Most sequencers have amazing quantization tools. Change the tempo - just doing this can change the entire feel of the track.

4. Using your MIDI editor, highlight and drag notes to re-map them to different instruments. If the track is good but you really need a tambourine instead of a cowbell - just click and drag!

5. Use your MIDI editor to separate out individual instruments for processing. If you want a funky delay on just your snare - just remove it from the kit and out in on it's own track!

6.	Mute tracks or instruments in parts of the song to create breakdowns or bare grooves.

This is just a sampling of the ways these tracks can be used. Don't be afraid to try your own techniques - good things can happen! If not, there is always the undo button!

Mapping

Dr. Feel Good is mapped to the General MIDI Standard and should be compatible with most sound sources. However, some defaults from time to time will be mapped differently than intended. The following is a chart of the instruments and the corresponding MIDI note assignment as used in recording these tracks. This can also be used as a reference to re-map sounds to create new variations on Dr. Feel Good grooves.
