There are many ways to create a new archive in the ArchCommander app. You can:
Click the ‘Create New’ button in the "Welcome to ArchCommander" window
Select the ‘New Archive…’ item from the main menu
Click the ‘+’ button on the tab bar
In all the cases listed above, you should see a dialog in which you should provide the name of your new archive, its location, and type. After providing the data, click the ‘Create’ button. What happens then, depends on the selected archive type.
For 7z, zip, tar, and wim archive, you get an empty archive to which you can add items in the ArchCommander app.
For tgz, tbz2, taz, txz, xar and iso you need to select items to add before the archive is created as it will become read-only. Therefore, a file selection dialog appears, and you need to select all the items to add.
For Z, gz, bz2, and xz the procedure is just like for tgz but you must only select a single file to pack.
Creating archives using Finder
To create a new archive from Finder, select items in Finder and select ‘Pack using ArchCommander…’ from the Services menu (access it in the main menu in ‘Finder’ or by right-clicking items in Finder). That opens a dialog in which you should provide the name of your new archive, its location, and type. After providing the data, click the ‘Create’ button and the archive will be created by the ArchCommander app.
