To load a file, you will need to enable the receipt of system exclusive data on the X3. You may also need to turn off memory Protections. Follow the instructions below.

1. Press GLOBAL.

2. Press the CURSOR UP button 7 times to get to the screen entitled "3D FILTER2"
The second line will show "CTRL:ENA EX:DIS" with the "ENA" flashing.

3. Press the CURSOR RIGHT button to select the "EX:DIS" option. "DIS" should now be flashing.

4. Press the UP/YES button to change "EX:DIS" to "EX:ENA".

5. The X3 memory protection settings are located in the next three pages of the GLOBAL mode. Use the CURSOR UP button to select the PROGRAM, COMBINATION, and SEQUENCE protect pages, and use the VALUE buttons to set each to OFF.

6. Use your MIDI software to send the sysex file to the X3.
The bottom line of the display should read "Processing..." while the data is being sent.

*If you are loading the ALL DATA file, you can initialize the X3 first. This clears the momory and turns off any memory protect functions. To initialize the X3, hold down ENTER and the CURSOR DOWN buttons while powering up. You will still need to enable system exclusive transmission.

*** Important Note***

Due to improvements in computer technology, today's systems are capable
of sending sysex data at speeds fast enough to overload the small
buffers in older MIDI capable gear. If you experience problems loading
the data, you may want to make the following adjustments.

-If the sysex data is embedded in a Standard MIDI file, slow the tempo
of the sequence. (Standard MIDI files are sequence files and usually
have a filename that ends in ".mid")

-Most programs that can send SysEx have settings for PAUSE TIME and
BUFFER SIZE. Manipulation of these settings, if present, can help the
older synth manage the incoming stream better. Set the buffer lower and
the pause time higher. That means slower transmission with better
breaks between the packets.
