Well, I did have a few tries at it.
I took a few presets, mashed them, then added new lines of code from scratch and changed others in the presets. It isn't truly from scratch, but I have trouble learning code (I have tried quite a few times, didn't work out so well), not only because I can't fully grasp the concepts, but I have a lot of other time-consuming things that are actually important, so I don't get much spare time to do much at all. I do, however, understand how all the codes in the presets works, so tweaking them is not hard for me at all. It is just a matter of knowing where to put something, and how the value will affect the preset. And yeah, I realize that it looks nothing like Volcano. It was just my starting point, and then I just took off from there. Since this forum post appears to be continuing on this site, I might as well post a new preset from time to time. Hope to see you guys soon! P.S. Here is a work in Progress Preset. It looks promising, but I know it needs more. |

Another Lava Theme
I would not have thought I'd come back to make presets, but a boring weekend taught me otherwise.
The lava background here is something I made a long time ago. I always liked it for its realistic loolk and movement, but I had no idea how to make it into a preset. Finally, I put together a few ideas from earlier works and finished it. It is nothing entirely new but I think still worth to be posted. Martin Last edited by Nitorami; 28th August 2014 at 22:10. Haha, I really thought about a dragon before, made of shapes like the goose. But it was a bit too much asked.

Maybe The Earth-Dragon (Der Erddrache)...
![]() We (our music-project Sternenmaschine) have composed "Der Erddrache" and another musician has made 2 remixes. We have a few YouTube-Uploads, 1 of them shows the "Flight Over The Volcanic Planet" (Adrift On A Dead Planet, with many thanks to Nitorami). And of course the new preset is already in my Winamp... ![]() Sabine Klare Aka Sternenmaschinebine Music, Art, Lyrics, Videos AMBIENT... AMBIENT music forever... |

So this is your new beat prediction in action!? Very classy, although you can do better than that animation. i really like the wide-stripe effect.
![]() ![]() how about some "3D" movements through one of my "bipolar" mixes. There's one infinite translatory component from pole to pole, one rotation around the poles, and the rotation of the poles around the center, if that makes any sense to you. |

Hi Flexi
No, this does not contain the new beat code. I needed a break from that, and wanted to make a real preset, something that does not look "like milkdrop" at the first glance. After minimashing myself through my folders, getting more and more depressed, I had the idea with these ribbons, and it worked surprisingly well *beam* But it uses the standard beat reaction, triggering random variables. The poles thingy makes sense to me. I truly visited my maths course, albeit a long time ago. I tried mashups with your theme a while ago but, after all, I do not like to mashup, it makes me feel really bad, so I took your code apart and tried to make it into a new preset but it somehow remained unsatisfactory and I never finished it. |

![]() You are my hero, again thanks. ![]() ![]() I like pixies party minimal techno remix.. Also you can improve your some personality presets. Especially city lights, diabolo, disco mixies, and elusive impressions series.. I think you should improve "elusive impression 2" at least. Yes, all of your presets are excellent but these are really so good, so cool for me, so I want to see the higher levels.. I just wanted to say my thoughts. ![]() |

Thank you. I make only few presets, but spend a lot of time for them. Pixies party is probably my most complex work, and it took me months. Normally I come back after a while and try to improve it, again spending a lot of time, but usually there is a limit. Sometimes these are artistic considerations, I won't stuff all possible effects into one preset, the movement scheme should be clear, and if the focus is on the foreground, the background should be decent. This is why I have no stars in pixies party. Tried it, but found it irritating. But mostly the limitation is milkdrop or CPU/GPU power. I want to have all presets work on my old AMD single core with GeForce 7600 nvidia card without stuttering. I agree that elusive impressions could do with some polish. I already gave it a try a while ago but it did not really work out. But pixies party and city lights are, well, accomplished, and I cannot improve them any further. At least not in milkdrop. |

Thank you. It is my favourite indeed, but I'd better not count the hours I put into that - including those watching it ![]() The next here is based on a combination of features from the resonant twister and surface turbulence. It may not be the most exciting preset, but its appearance is quite novel and I like it... maybe avoiding the "like milkdrop" look is an obsession of mine. As the resonant twister, it likes reasonably rhythmic music and requires a short time to fall into pace. The shader trick used here is not worn out yet, and there may be some more potential in it. Attached a preview of what I am currently working on. Martin Last edited by Nitorami; 27th September 2015 at 23:17. Reason: bug fix |

Ring Dance
As promised, two new presets based on the rings motive. Same movement but different background. I found that the coloured background, although dimmed and blurred, may be found distractive.
The screenshot is not required for the presets to run. Martin |

Yes, isn't it ?
![]() This one is close to what I always wanted, so variable that it still surprises me after watching it through half the mod archive. I usually modulate parameters to make my presets more interesting but always found there is a limit: the more parameters are varied, the higher the chance that certain combinations give bad results such as a white or black screen or otherwise ugly image. My first attempt with many parameters was the elusive impressions, but it was not quite satisfactory in that one could see through it: Ah, now it switches from two to four shapes, now there is noise on the comp shader, now the mirror axis has changed. The cherry brain is not transparent in that sense, which makes it surprising, even to me: I do not know why exactly it looks like that. That was a bit of luck, in particular the comp shader which is quite tolerant against parameter variations, and does not have bad spots where it produces shite results. I am still playing with it. Here is a modified version. Not a lot visible difference, maybe a bit better tuned to suit different song styles, colours slightly attenuated e.g. by higher number and different movement of gray shapes (Nr 4). Also introduced hard cuts for songs which ask for it, but trigger level is quite high as I do not want this to by too jerky. Martin (Note to self) Position of shapes controlled by resonant beat, size by volume, parameter changes such as rotation and mirror axes by simple volume triggers. q11 features double BPM if beat detection quality sufficient, q26 switches hard cuts. |

Yes. The main light source is the star in the background, and obviously it should not be seen if a wall is directly in front. And if the scenery consists of many solid blocks with only narrow gaps between, the pathfinding algorithm constantly needs to change direction to find a way through. I cannot light these scenes either because that looks bad.
In a revised version, I will limit the ranges of a few random parameters to avoid too packed as well as too empty sceneries. |

I have made a cut of the latest sceenshot with IrfanView, because it looks so beautiful (I have removed the blue canvas)...
Based on the other downloaded screenshot from this thread on this page, which I have named "preview2_frosty_caves.jpg", I have named this one "preview2_frosty_caves_2a.jpg". Although these screenshots are not required to have the presets working, I have decided to have them as random textures in the textures folder. I have seen both frosty caves presets. They look fantastic... ![]() Sabine Klare Aka Sternenmaschinebine Music, Art, Lyrics, Videos AMBIENT... AMBIENT music forever... |

What do you mean by "I have a few..." ? As you mention pixies party, I thought I could do an upgrade using more particles than in the old versions. The attached can show 2000 particles instead of 800, but requires more CPU. On my 12 year old AMD machine, the frame rate may drop to 25 in fullscreen mode, while usually I aim to achieve a minimum rate of 30fps. Which i why I limited the original version to 800 shapes. By the way, I never mentioned but you can adjust this preset quite easily if you wish. The principle is that a camera follows the moving sparkling head; the camera has limited speed, the speed of view angle changes is also limited. The camera tries to keep a certain distance to the spark head, and it always tries to lock back on the horizon ( I found this more natural than ignoring the horizon). I spent many hours on optimising it with the music I like, but you can change all of this in the Init section. You can also change gravitation, air drag, particle speed, global speed (decreasing global speed results in sort of slow motion). Martin |

I am sure, the NVIDIA graphic card on my Workstation PC can handle with it, although with the website music visualizer "A Dive In Music" in Firefox & Chrome I got graphic card errors, if I was not careful. On my notebook I have AMD.
I had changed the coding of the texture, and I made subsets: moss, mosscity, mossleaves and yesterday also mossmandelbulber. And now I hope, that my newest thread "Images, cut and mirrored for tiling and stretching" will get some more feedback: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=390406 The attached 2 images exist more than 1 time in my textures folders: cutandmirroredinfourways0003.jpg = mossleavesbysabineklare1.jpg cutandmirroredinfourways0003.jpg = mossleavesbysabineklare5.jpg I made also different color edits, with the minus-values 050 and 255 for cyan, magenta, yellow, red, green, blue for the numbers 1 & 5. I made also autocorrected for the numbers 2 & 6, full contrast & full saturation for the numbers 3 & 7, full contrast & full saturation & edge detection for the numbers 4 & 8. I have used IrfanView for all my edits. I have expanded my ideas very much... ![]() Edit 1: I cannot upload the .zip-folder with my 32 mossleaves-images. I thought, I could upload maximal 15 MB, but also with 7 MB I have problems... Edit 2: Maybe I can share at least the versions "random moss" the next time, because moss1.jpg is here already... ![]() Sabine Klare Aka Sternenmaschinebine Music, Art, Lyrics, Videos AMBIENT... Your latest pixies party looks very good, but also Your latest cherry brain version and both frosty caves.
I love to do my experiments with the subsets of my .jpg-files in the textures folder. If I am satisfied with the previews, then I have to do the right-click on the icon. I have experienced also, that some images have failed in the previews, they don't look so good. For the pixies party I simply replaced "sampler_moss1" by "sampler_rand00_moss", and at least "moss1.jpg" has to be in the textures folder. Because the upload of my .zip-folder has failed, I want to leave again 2 images with the right filenames... Sabine Klare Aka Sternenmaschinebine Music, Art, Lyrics, Videos AMBIENT... Yes, lovely. In the preset, they do not look like forest though, which is what I had originally intended.
Even if you cannot upload 15MB, it is now possible to upload images of reasonable size. When I uploaded moss1 a few years ago, the forum was broken, AOL did not bother, and I had to reduce the file to 45k. Therefore it looks grainy. Unformtunately I did not store the original. |
